Thingalur Chandran Temple is dedicated to Lord Siva. Lord Siva here known by Kailasanathar. This temple is famous for Infant’t rice feeding.  Temple is 37 km from Kumbakonam. Special poojas will be performed to the deity on full moon day and on Monday’s.

 

Apputhi Adigal a merchant living in Thingalur was a great follower of Thirunavukkarasar. One day Apputhi Adigal thought of hosting a party for his Guru during his visit to the temple town. He asked his son to bring the plantain leaves from the garden, where a snake bit him. Apputhi Adigal hid the corpse of his son as he don’t want to disturb the plan. Knowing this, the Guru carried the corpse to the siva temple and revived his life by praying to the Lord.

As per the Legend, Nala was the ruler of Nishada, he established a vast dynasty and the kingdom prospered under his rule. Nala wants marry Damayanthi, daughter of the King Bhima, ruler of Vidharbha. Nala sent his message to Damayanthi thru swan and they were in love. Meanwhile King Bhima arranged Swayamvaram for her daughter, Damayanthi married Nala during this ceremony.  Kali was jealous on Nala as he could not marry Damayanthi and decided to make their life hell.

Shani got the opportunity, when Nala did not wash his feet properly while preparing for his prayers, from then on Shani started acting on Nala.

Kali entered the mind of Nala’s brother, Pushkara and exhorted him to challenge Nala to the dice game. In the dice game, Nala lost his kingdom and left to forest with his wife. Nala left his wife by leaving a note while she is sleeping. With the help of Swaguhu, Damayanthi reached her father’s place and started living there with her kids. Nala became ugly with the bite from Karkotaka serpent. He then leading life as a cook and charioteer for the King Rituparna.

After 12 years of Shani Period, Nala got back his original form by wearing the magical garment and won the lost kingdom in the dice game and started living with his family.

Though he is out of Shani period, Nala was disturbed so he started spiritual expedition with his family. During their journey, they met Sage Bardwaja at Virudhachalam. Sage advised him to visit Thirunallar once for peace and happy living.

Nala visited Thirunallar with his family and had bath in Brahma Theertham and entered Sanctum Sanctorum of the temple. Nala got relieved completely from Shani effect.

By Road

  1. Temple is 59 km from Kumbakonam, 128 km from Pondicherry. Direct bus is available from Chennai to Thirunallar.
  2. Temple is 7.3 km from Karaikkal and 26 km from Nagapattinam.

By Train

  1. Thirunallar Railway station is located on the Peralam – Karaikkal Railway line.
  2. Mayiladuthurai is well connected to all parts of India, which is 32 km away.

It is said that many Naga kings, including Adisesha ( Vishnu’s couch), Takshaka and Karkotaka worshiped Siva at this place, thus the Lord Siva here called by Thirunageswaram.

Once it happened that, when Vinayaka offering prayers to Lord Siva, Naga which lies around the neck of Lord Siva felt that Vinayaka was worshiping him too, knowing this Lord Siva cursed Naga’s family to lose their Spiritual powers.

In order to regain their spiritual powers, Adisesha along with other serpents offered prayers to the Siva Idols which were at the three different places at three different timings. In the early hours, pooja was offered to the Siva Idol at Kudanthai, at noon it was at Thirunageswaram and in the evening it was at Thirupampuram. Lord Siva was pleased with their sincere prayers and blessed them all with their spiritual powers.

 

How to reach Thirupampuram Rahu Ketu Temple?

  1. Thirupampuram Rahu Ketu Temple is 3 km from Karkaththi village,  which is at west to to Kollumangudi viallge, located on the highway of Kumbakonam – Kaaraikal .
  2. By bus from Kumbakonam to Kaaraikal, one should get down at Kollumangudi. From Kollumangudi  and Peralam places, mini buses will be operating with high frequency to Karkaththi village.
  3. Kollumangudi / Peralam is at the intersection of Mayiladuthurai – Thiruvarur Road and Kumbakonam – Kaaraikalam road.
